What to expect from the A1.1 course

This is the first of two A1 courses. It will provide you with a strong foundation in Portuguese, focusing on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and sentence structure.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Greet and say goodbye
Introduce yourself and others
Ask for and provide personal information
Express opinions about others
Describe relationships between people
Identify places, objects, and people
Ask for and give directions, describe routes, and discuss transportation
Interact in shops, cafés, and other commercial settings
Understand menus and order food at a restaurant

Make, accept, and decline invitations
Express and ask for opinions
Talk about and ask questions about daily activities
Ask for and tell the time
Discuss leisure activities

What to expect from the Conversational B1.1 course

The B1 level marks the beginning of independent language use in Portuguese. In this course, students will develop the ability to communicate more fluently and effectively in everyday situations.


During the course, students will connect phrases in a simple way in order to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions. They will briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. They will narrate a story or relate the plot of a book or film and describe their reactions.
