Welcome to Conversa Portuguese!

Conversa Portuguese is a virtual school specializing in teaching European Portuguese.

This is an innovative school because it doesn’t just offer online lessons or self-study resources. It combines both methods so that students can accelerate their language learning progress.

At Conversa Portuguese, students have 90-minute lessons via Zoom but also have access to their own virtual classroom, a digital library, a self-study room, and a reading room. There are hundreds of free resources that complement the online lessons and make a difference.


Classrooms

Each student has their own room with Zoom lessons, all the materials for these lessons and homework (worksheets, videos, audios files, and interactive exercises).

Self-study room

A room for all students with materials for self-learning (dictionaries, quizzes, games, videos with grammar explanations, and other interactive exercises).

Reading room

Chronicles, short stories, and poems by Portuguese writers and poets with explanations and/or translations into English of difficult vocabulary and cultural and historical references.

Digital library

Repository of Portuguese TV series, films, music, newspapers, radio, videos on literature, painting, gastronomy, museums, etc.

How does Conversa Portuguese make a difference?

In addition to Zoom lessons, we offer hundreds of free materials for the language practice (short stories, chronicles, poetry with translations and/or explanations of words and expressions, as well as exercises, games, videos, dictionaries, films, TV series, etc.), allowing you to speed up your learning progress.

Personalized learning

We plan our lessons and build our materials according to the student's level of language proficiency (A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1, described by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), as well as their goals, needs, and challenges.

Language and culture

We develop language skills (speaking, reading, writing, and listening), but also metaphorical and intercultural skills, which enable students to communicate effectively in different cultural contexts.

Experience and qualifications

I am a tutor with over 22 years of experience in designing teaching materials and teaching Portuguese as a second  language to adult students from different backgrounds. I hold a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, and a PhD in Portuguese Studies.

About me

My name is Cláudia Taveira, and I am a Portuguese teacher. Over the last 22 years, I have worked with students of different nationalities who wanted to learn Portuguese for a wide variety of reasons. I always try to adapt to their goals and learning styles. The research I carried out during my master's and PHD in Portuguese Studies has also helped me to cater to my students. I have studied, and worked on the most common difficulties learners' of language learners. I am prepared to help you learn Portuguese successfully!
