Conversa Portuguese is a virtual school specializing in the teaching of European Portuguese.

Conversa doesn’t just offer online lessons — it combines classes with qualified and experienced teachers, ongoing learning support, and a digital platform designed to help students accelerate their language progress.

At Conversa Portuguese, students have 60-minute Zoom lessons with friendly, qualified, and experienced teachers and also gain access to a personal virtual classroom, a digital library, a practice room, and a reading room. There are hundreds of free resources that complement the live lessons and make a real difference.

Additionally, students benefit from smart support tools between lessons and conversation-focused tools that help build speaking confidence, ensuring continuous progress even outside of class time.


Classrooms

Each student has a personalized virtual room with Zoom lessons and all the materials they need — worksheets, videos, audio files, and interactive exercises — organised by lesson and homework task.

Practice room

A shared space for all students with self-study materials: quizzes, games, and a wide range of interactive exercises.

Reading room

Articles, short stories, and poems by Portuguese writers and poets with explanations and/or translations into English of difficult vocabulary and cultural and historical references.

Media library

Repository of Portuguese TV series, films, music, newspapers, radio, videos on literature, painting, gastronomy, museums, etc.

Personalized learning

We plan our lessons and build our materials according to the student's level of language proficiency (A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1, described by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), as well as their goals, needs, and challenges.

Language and culture

We develop language skills (speaking, reading, writing, and listening), but also metaphorical and intercultural skills, which enable students to communicate effectively in different cultural contexts.

I am a tutor with over 22 years of experience in designing teaching materials and teaching Portuguese as a second  language to adult students from different backgrounds. I hold a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, and a PhD in Portuguese Studies.

About me

My name is Cláudia Taveira, and I am a Portuguese teacher. Over the last 23 years, I have worked with students of different nationalities who wanted to learn Portuguese for a wide variety of reasons. I always try to adapt to their goals and learning styles. The research I carried out during my master's and PHD in Portuguese Studies has also helped me to cater to my students. I have studied, and worked on the most common difficulties learners' of language learners. I am prepared to help you learn Portuguese successfully!
